Information For Dog Owners

Enjoygower receives considerable interest from dog owners searching for information about how to make the best of Gower with their four legged companions.  Being a peninsular,  there are many local beaches offering significant opportunities for walks. Although there are restrictions in place on some beaches between the end of April and the start of October, there are plenty of beaches offering all year round access for dogs.

General Information about places to go

A walk along swansea bay

The promenade along Swansea Beach is extensive and you can walk your dog from the Marina in Swansea  to Mumbles Head and beyond (although dogs are allowed on the promenade on leads, parts of the beach may be restricted during peak months)  You can join the promenade at various points, a good walk is from Blackpill to Mumbles, this a about 2 kilometres and there are cafe’s en route, the promenade can get congested at times especially at Mumbles, this is also a cycle track so keeping your dog on a lead is essential, dogs can go on the beach from West Cross to Mumbles. (all year)

Cafe’s, Pubs and Restaurants

There are many cafes, pubs and restaurants, that accommodate dogs.  We particularly enjoy Croeso Lounge, The Kitchen Table, The Mermaid, The Mumbles Beach Hut at Mumbles Pier and Cafe Valance on Newton Road; All of these are very dog friendly.

Cafe Valance - very relaxed atmosphere for dogs and their owners

Beach Cafe’s

There are 'Surfside Cafes' at Rotherslade, Langland and Caswell and these are extremely dog friendly. The Rotherslade Cafe is now opening until 8pm during the summer. Langland’s Brasserie does not allow dogs in the restaurant, but you can enjoy a meal on the terrace overlooking the beach. (biscuits and water provided).

In our 'Dog Friendly Restaurant Blogs' there are more detailed write ups local restaurants that allow dogs.  Of course there are many more dog friendly gems which we have not yet discovered. We look forward to adding to the information on this page as we continue to seek dog friendly places.

Making life with wet dogs a lot easier
These excellent double lined coats are available in a range of sizes to fit most breeds.

Gower Area

As Buddy loves the sea so much, we will travel more to Oxwich Bay and Port Eynon in the summer months. The Oxwich Bay Hotel that sits in the corner of the beach, has a great beer garden and has a small cwtch area for dog owners, that is set aside away from the main restaurant area.

At Port Eynon the Ship Inn allows dogs in the bar area where food is also served.   I believe that the Kings Head at Llangennith will allow dogs into the bar area and this is the same for the Britannia Inn at Llanmadoc.

Local Parks

Clyne Gardens is a fantastic park with plenty to offer dog walkers. It takes about 40 minutes to circumnavigate the gardens and there are plenty of seats and viewing points to rest up en route. The Woodman Pub located on the Mumbles Road, at the southern end of the gardens has parking and a beer garden where dogs are welcome. This is a very busy restaurant and there is limited space for dogs inside. it can be very busy at weekends and peak periods. Water bowls and free biscuits are readily available.
